With electric cars sales set to increase sharply in the next few years, rising from 3.1 million in 2020 to 14 million in 2025, World EV Day is inviting young people to create an EV emoji highlighting this exciting sustainable mobility future.

World EV Day creators Green.TV and headline sponsor ABB are launching this superb EVmoji contest. They’re inviting young people under the age of 16 from around the world to create their own electric vehicle (EV) emoji.

The competition is simple and now open to children and teenagers between the ages of 6 and 16, as of September 9, 2021. They can submit designs by posting through their social media accounts, whether it’s Facebook, Twitter, Instagram or LinkedIn, or from their parent’s social media accounts, using the hashtag #EVmoji.

World EV Day and ABB will then submit the winning design to the global governing body of emojis, the Unicode Consortium, in a pitch to become the official emoji of electric vehicles (EVs).

During the contest children and teenagers can submit as many emoji designs to the contest. Each entry must be the contestant’s self-created original artwork. The competition closes at midnight on August 20, 2021 PST.

The winner will be contacted by World EV Day representatives via direct message on the social account from which they entered the challenge. The winning design will be announced on World EV Day which takes place September 9, 2021. For more information and a complete list of terms and conditions, please see here.

The idea came around because an official emoji representing electric vehicles doesn’t currently exist. ABB and Green.TV figured that issuing the challenge of creating the world’s first EV emoji icon to the next generation of EV drivers would be the perfect fit. The companies are calling this the EVmoji.

Frank Muehlon, ABB’s E-mobility division president, said: “World EV Day has become an important event to ABB as we continue to raise awareness around e-mobility and the value of enabling a low-carbon future. But just as importantly, we see this event as helping to engage the passion and creativity of the future generation of drivers.

“Launching an EV emoji challenge within the context of World EV Day offers the perfect opportunity to bring young people into the excitement and momentum around electric vehicles, long before they make purchasing decisions. We are calling creative kids everywhere to the electrifying world of EVs.”

Ade Thomas, founder of Green.TV and the company behind World EV Day, said: "World EV Day is all about engaging a wide audience for sustainable emobility, and where better to start that than with the real influencers in a family, the kids, with an emoji competition for electric cars. At Green.TV Media we’re delighted to be working on this with our headline partner ABB."
