bp has announced that its subsidiary bp Chargemaster and Polar charging network, which were acquired in 2018, will now operate under the name bp pulse. Since acquiring both brands bp has invested significantly in expanding its UK public charging network, as well as people, products and processes to help strengthen its position in the UK electric car and vehicle market.
bp pulse is one of the largest charging networks in the UK and has over 7,000 public charge points across the country. The company will continue to expand its network of public electric car and vehicle chargers in the UK and aim to have 16,000 chargers by 2030. The company also aims to have 700 DC chargers by 2025, with this expanding to 1,400 by 2030.
The company’s current subscription scheme will continue to operate, enabling access to bp pulse public charge points at a low-cost tariff of £7.85 a month. bp pulse members will still be able to access existing and new charge points with their RFID card or key fob.
The previous Polar Plus and Polar Instant smartphone apps were recently consolidated into a single bp Chargemaster app, which has now been rebranded to bp pulse. All users will be able to start and stop charges within the app, manage their account and plan their journeys with our live map.
Throughout November, bp pulse upgraded all its 50kW Ultracharge units with new contactless payment terminals and improved software. They will continue to install 50kW and 150kW rapid chargers across the country on the public charging network, all with contactless access available, including Apple, Google and Samsung Pay.
