Inaugural World EV Day a massive global success

On September 9, Green.TV held a world first with the online World EV Day event. It was such a success that it had a total audience reach of hundreds of millions. The day had been created to offer a celebration of world-wide electric car and vehicle ownership, and all things emobility.

Ade Thomas, Founder of both Green.TV and the day itself, said:

“This was a campaign which became a movement, championed by both our incredible line up of global partners and EV drivers and potential EV drivers, themselves. Governments, companies and drivers all got behind the inaugural World EV Day, generating real, material change.”

World EV Day brought together the worldwide electric vehicle community to help pave the way for a more sustainable mobility future. The event has created a global movement of people, keen to champion sustainable transport.

The day itself included four high level EV Summit panel discussions covering: U.S. investment, U.S. Cities, Emobility and the Green Recovery, and emobility marketing.

The event attracted attention from around the world, including those regular electric car drivers, those involved in the electric mobility space, through to senior ministers, including Grant Shapps, the UK’s Transport Secretary. One great story was of an electric van salesman, Dan Wilson, who wanted to show his support for this sustainable transport movement for the sake of his baby daughter.

World EV Day was hosted by Green.TV who worked with over 50 green and sustainable partners in the emobility space including ABB, BYD, DPD, LeasePlan Polestar, National Grid, Shell NewMotion and ubitricity.

There were also several big announcements made at the event including one the founding partners, Nissan, were able to broadcast to the world that they had now produced a half million of the popular LEAF electric car. Another founding partner, Land Rover, launched their new Defender P400e plug-in hybrid electric car at the event.

A neat component, and additional advantage for electric car owners in the UK, was FREECHARGE. Thanks to one of the partners, ubitricity, electric car owners were offered free charging for the entire World EV Day. On a lighter note, an Irishman drove his electric car around the entire country for charity and to highlight electric car use. Safe to say, World EV Day was a huge success.
