Kenworth, who are of America’s largest truck builders, have launched two new electric trucks with up to 200 miles of range. These are electric versions of their existing Class 6 K270 and Class 7 K370 trucks that have conveniently been named the K270E and the K370E.
The trucks will be fitted with 141 kWh and 282 kWh batteries that will offer a range of 100 miles (161km) and 200 miles (322km) respectively, with zero emissions. Kenworth offer two direct-drive motors rated at 355 horsepower and 469 horsepower. The high torque makes them ideal for city driving and the regenerative braking in stop-and-start town situations recharges the batteries and helps to extend brake life.
Both models will be able to use a DC fast charging system that will enable them to recharge as quickly as an hour. This combined with their size makes them ideal for local deliveries and pick-ups, as well for regional haulage work. Kenworth are making the trucks available to order for their clients and deliveries should start at the end of 2020.
