Lynk & Co ZERO EV electric car undergoes first dynamic testing in China

Just three months after its global debut at the 2020 Beijing Auto Show, the Lynk & Co ZERO EV electric car has begun testing at the Yan Cheng test facility in China’s Jiangsu Province. Lynk & Co are part of China’s Zhejiang Geely Holding Group (ZGH) that owns Lotus, Polestar and Volvo.

The new ZERO EV is a family-sized five-door hatchback that takes many of its style cues from the brand’s combustion-engined cars. It’s the first car based on Geely Holding’s Sustainable Experience Architecture (SEA) vehicle architecture. This open-sourced vehicle architecture will be used throughout the Geely Holdings portfolio of car brands as well as with external third parties.

The performance of the ZERO EV is what will make this car a big hit with a targeted range of 435 miles (700km) from its 800-volt battery pack. Lynk & Co say this battery will have no power degradation for the first 125,000 miles (200,000km ) of its targeted 1.25-million-mile (2-million-kilometre) lifespan.

The ZERO EV will also boast a speedy 0-62mph (0-100kph) time of under four seconds. The batteries are located low in the vehicle’s SEA architecture to allow for good balance and a low centre of gravity to improve handling.

In its first dynamic track testing debut, the Lynk & Co ZERO EV showcased some of its most impressive abilities. These include its fully controllable air suspension, high-speed handling capabilities and overall performance.

Further physical testing including wind tunnel and cold and hot weather testing is expected to continue over the remainder of 2020 and into early 2021. The final model has been confirmed for production in mid-2021 with customers receiving their cars in the final quarter.

Kent Bovellan, Chief Engineer for the SEA Architecture at Geely Auto Group, said:

“The speed at which we have taken the SEA based ZERO EV from concept to production-ready is really amazing. Today, we are gathering real-world data that matches our early estimations for SEA and the ZERO EV. We are creating a new type of electric vehicle that matches performance with quality, and quality with technology.”
