The Volkswagen ID.3 will be available in its new Pure Performance guise, which focuses on value and performance, from tomorrow. It features a new powertrain and will be available in two trims, including the entry-level City and design-focused Style. Prices will start from £28,370 and £32,470 (including in plug-in government grant) respectively.
The cheaper Pure Performance version differs from Volkwagen’s Pro model ID.3 models already on sale in the UK with its lighter 45 kWh battery, 150 PS power output and 310 Nm of torque.
It accelerates 0-62mph (0-100kph) in 8.9 seconds and matches the 99mph (159kph) top speed of the rest of the ID.3 range. The City version offers up to 217 miles (349km) of range while the Style version is a little less at 215 miles (346km).
Both specifications of the Pure Performance ID.3 can be charged up to 137 miles (220km) of range in just 30 minutes using a 100 kW rapid charger in 30 minutes. A 7.2 kW home charger takes around seven and a half hours for a full charge.
As standard the ID.3 City offers as standard a 10-inch Discover Pro Navigation infotainment system and the Comfort Package includes heated front seats and a heated steering wheel. It also has rain-sensing wipers and an auto-dimming rear mirror, along with two rear USB-C ports.
Driver assistance features include Adaptive Cruise Control (ACC) with Front Assist as well as a Driver Alert System, Lane Assist forward collision warning and extended and proactive pedestrian protection. There are also useful front and rear parking sensors.
The more expensive Style version builds on this with alloy wheels, IQ.Light LED matrix headlights, animation for the LED taillights, 30-colour interior ambient lighting tinted windows and an illuminated light band between the headlights and Volkswagen logo. The Comfort Package Plus also provides two-zone climate control and a variable boot floor, along with a rear-view camera. It also features the ’Kessy Advance’ keyless entry system.
It’s great to see these new more affordable ID.3 models from Volkswagen, especially with their First Edition and Pro models winning so many fans and awards. The Pure Performance range will open this functional and practical zero-emissions car to a wider audience. And best of all both are eligible for the new government grant for plug-in vehicles.
